Introduction to Knee Arthroscopy

This course has been awarded 6 CPD Points by the RCSEd

Description:

Introductory course to knee arthroscopy for trainees that want to familiarize themselves with the surgical anatomy of the knee, principles of arthroscopy, knee clinical examination findings and indications for knee arthroscopy, imaging, triangulation and eye hand coordination, arthroscopy equipment and simulated procedures using models and arthroscopic simulators.

Target audience:
Aimed at FY2, ST1-2 Orthopaedic trainees and SAS grades who would like to gain experience in knee arthroscopy. Numbers are limited to 16 delegates.

Aims and objectives:
To provide training in basic principles of knee arthroscopy, the commonly used arthroscopic instrumentation and practical sessions on surgical and functional anatomy, triangulation, simple arthroscopic procedures on knee arthroscopy models and arthroscopy simulators.

Learning outcomes:
On completion of the course the participants will be able to identify the knee arthroscopic anatomical structures, be familiar with the history and principles of arthroscopy, as well as with the equipment and instruments for basic arthroscopy, their setup and troubleshooting. They will be able to follow a systematic approach performing a knee arthroscopy and practice this in synthetic models and arthroscopy simulators. Also, they will be able to perform a clinical evaluation of the knee joint and interpret the commonly requested knee imaging investigations.
