Description:

This is a one day hands-on cadaveric course that will cover the principles of orthopaedic surgical skills in shoulder arthroscopy on Thiel embalmed human cadavers, giving a more realistic operating room experience.

With presentations kept to a minimum, most of the day is spent practicing skills.

Target audience:

Aimed at ST3—ST6 Orthopaedic trainees and SAS grades who would like to gain experience in shoulder arthroscopy. Numbers are limited to 10 delegates with 2 delegates for every operating site.

Pre-requisites:

Previous exposure to knee arthroscopy is desirable.

Aims and objectives:

To provide training in basic principles of shoulder arthroscopy and the range of common operative procedures performed in shoulder arthroscopy practice.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of the course the participants will have performed the following surgical skills: Draping and portal placement for shoulder arthroscopy, diagnostic shoulder arthroscopy, recognise the indications and perform arthroscopic bursectomy, recognize the indications and perform arthroscopic subacromial decompression, recognize the indications and perform arthroscopic capsular release, recognize the indications and perform arthroscopic acromioclavicular joint excision, recognize the indications and perform arthroscopic biceps tenotomy.

Online learning material will be sent to the delegates before the course to facilitate pre-course study.
